Use this worksheet together to prepare for a new household employee. Add general working notes, tick what is ready, then print or save a PDF. Keep passwords, medical details and private emergency contacts in a separate secure record.

• Confirm the role. Agree the duties, hours, pay, start date and who the employee reports to.
• Employment arrangements. Arrange appropriate employment documentation, payroll, insurance and relevant employer checks with specialist advice where needed.
• A clear first morning. Agree arrival time, access arrangements and the person who will welcome the employee. Share access codes securely outside this worksheet.
• Household priorities. Walk through the rooms, equipment, products and routines relevant to the role. Explain what can wait when priorities change.
• Safety and emergencies. Show exits, first-aid supplies and the procedure for getting help. Share essential emergency information privately.
• Childcare or care handover. Where relevant, discuss routines, permissions and individual support needs privately with the employee.
• Boundaries and privacy. Agree breaks, off-duty time, visitor arrangements, photographs, social media and household confidentiality.
• Spending and expenses. Explain purchases, approvals, receipts, mileage and how expenses will be recorded.
• Communication. Agree how to share daily updates, ask questions and raise concerns.
• First-week conversation. Book a short review with space for both sides to discuss what is working and what needs adjusting.
